Honoring the legacy of Dr. James E. Newton—a pioneering artist, educator, and co-founder of the Black American Studies program at the University of Delaware—the James E. Newton Scholarship will provide tuition support for outstanding students majoring in Africana Studies. Your gift helps make big dreams come true for the Blue Hen community on campus and beyond!

The goal of the project is to raise $50,000 by June 30, 2024, in order to establish the scholarship as an endowment, so that it benefits UD students in perpetuity. If the $50,000 goal is not met, the funds raised will still be used for scholarships in Dr. Newton’s name but will be spent as current-use support instead of establishing an endowment.
